Crisis communications is just part of our jobs. In fact, it’s part of everyday life, not only for organizations, institutions and businesses but for individuals. But it’s no fun. First of all, we don’t wish to have crises to have to communicate about and, when we do, it can be very confusing and stress-inducing to figure out the best path. However, crisis communications doesn’t have to be a crisis itself. This is the comforting part. Most of us have heard the phrase, “The best time to respond to a crisis is before it actually happens.” In this webinar we’ll talk about how we do this – respond to a crisis before it happens – by preparing a communications plan, chain of communications, discernment around mission and identity, and community building. We’ll also talk about how to handle the media, talk to a spokesperson and craft an open, loving and contained message around particular crises. This will be a best practices discussion. Carrie Graves serves as the Canon for Communications in the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland. Carrie was born and raisedin Columbia, South Carolina. She moved to Baltimore in 2018, answering a call to the Diocese of Maryland, bringing her family with her. Before coming to Maryland she served as the Canon for Communications in the Diocese of Upper South Carolina and was a professional bookseller, bookstore owner and Episcopal bookseller before that.
