Communicators of Color Focus Group

At this year's in-person conference in Portland, ME, Episcopal Communicators board members will facilitate a special session exclusively for communicators of color. During our virtual conference shortly after, we will repeat the same conversation. This launch can be described as an initial conversation to create what a long-term communicators of color community looks like (including modifications to the name itself). For those of you who identify as a person of color, we hope that you will be interested and able to attend the session.

The task of the special session is to begin discussion about what this group might look like and how it would gather. The launch will also begin discussion on focus group goals, membership, and more. While we recognize and hope Episcopal Communicators can improve on matters of racial justice and authentic engagement, and we do hope to foster additional mechanisms for input and change as needed, this is not the vision for this group at this time.

The board hopes the communicators of color group becomes part of the support Episcopal Communicators provides for people in their respective roles around the church, empowering communicators of color through the particular challenges they may be facing professionally, socially, and spiritually.

We recognize some may not be able to attend either the in-person or virtual conferences, so the virtual conversation will be open to any member of color regardless of conference registration status.

We look forward to launching this exciting and important initiative this year! Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
